About Consation

Content warnings and staying in control

Consation covers intimate and sometimes difficult subjects. This page explains how we label explicit and sensitive content, and which tools help you decide what you see, when and where.

Our approach

You should never be surprised by what a page shows you. We aim to tell you in advance what kind of content you are about to see, keep explicit material behind a clear choice, and make it easy to leave at any moment.

  • Explicit content is labeled and only shown after you confirm you are 18 or older
  • Pages about difficult experiences say so at the start
  • Help is always one link away
  • You can make the site less conspicuous on your screen, or leave it instantly

No labeling system is perfect. If you come across a page that should have carried a note or an 18+ label and did not, please let us know, and we will fix it.

Explicit content and the 18+ confirmation

Most of Consation is educational and suitable for any adult reader. A smaller part is sexually explicit.

We treat a page as explicit when it describes sexual practices in detail, shows or describes sex positions, or contains explicit game prompts. Library entries, scenarios, guides and agreement templates can be marked explicit individually; positions and the bingo game are always treated as explicit.

How explicit pages are handled

  • Before an explicit page shows its content, you are asked to confirm that you are 18 or older
  • Until you confirm, the explicit parts of the page stay blurred
  • In lists and overviews, explicit entries carry an "18+" label, so you can choose before you click
  • Explicit pages are not offered to search engines and do not appear in our site search

Your confirmation stays in this browser

We remember your 18+ confirmation only in the browser you used, not in your account. If you share a device or browser, other people using it will not be asked again. Clearing your site data resets it.

Other sensitive topics

Talking about consent also means talking about what happens when it is ignored. Some of our pages deal with subjects that can be painful to read, especially if they touch on your own experience.

Topics we flag

  • Abuse in relationships, including emotional and financial abuse
  • Sexual violence and assault
  • Coercion, pressure and manipulation
  • Mentions of self-harm or suicidal thoughts
  • Medical topics such as injuries, infections and emergencies

Our in-depth guides on these subjects start with a short content note, so you can decide whether to read on now, later or not at all. The Situation Room has its own pages on difficult situations, written to help you think through what to do next. Wherever it matters, we link to helplines and support services.

Discreet mode and themes

Sometimes the content is fine for you, but not for whoever might glance at your screen.

Discreet mode

Gives your browser tab a neutral title and icon, and blurs previews until you hover over, focus or tap them. It applies to this device only. Switch it on or off in the footer, in the mobile menu or under Appearance in your profile.

Calmer themes

You can choose between five color themes. Parchment is light and quiet for daytime reading, Midnight is a calm, neutral dark mode, and High contrast makes text easier to read.

Discreet mode changes what is shown on your screen. It does not hide your visit from your browser history, your network or the device itself.

Quick exit

If someone walks in, or you simply need to leave, quick exit takes you away from Consation at once.

How to use it

  • Select "Quick exit" in the header on larger screens, or in the bar at the bottom of the screen on phones
  • Or press the Esc key three times in quick succession
  • The page is hidden immediately and replaced by a neutral page, a weather search
  • The current page is replaced in your history, so pressing "back" does not return to it

What quick exit cannot do

Pages you visited before the current one remain in your browser history. If someone else may check your device, a private or incognito window is the safest option, because the browser forgets that window's history when you close it.

Reporting content

If you think something on Consation is wrong, harmful, wrongly labeled or should not be here, please tell us. This includes our own pages and content shared by members.

  • Email support@consation.com
  • If you have an account, use the contact form
  • On a user manual that someone has shared publicly, use the "Report this manual" link on that page

Please include the page address and a short description of the problem. We look at every report, and we change, relabel or remove content where needed.

You do not have to explain why something upset you or prove that it is wrong. A short note is enough for us to take a look. We do not share who sent a report with the person whose content it concerns.

If something on this site upsets you

Reading about consent, boundaries or violence can bring up memories or feelings you did not expect. That is a normal reaction, and you do not have to work through it alone.

  • Close the page or use quick exit. You can come back later, or never
  • Do something grounding: breathe slowly, drink some water, step outside
  • Talk to someone you trust
  • Contact a helpline. Our helplines page lists free and confidential services by country

If you are in danger

If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, call your local emergency number now (112 in Europe) or go to the nearest emergency department.

Explicit 18+ pages are not included in search. Find them through the library and the A to Z directory.
