Check-in Timer

Set an interval and let a soft chime remind you to pause and ask: how are you? Green keeps going, yellow slows down, red stops.

Why regular check-ins?

In a scene, time and sensations feel different. Someone deep in their headspace may not notice that a hand is going numb, that they are cold or that they have had enough. A short, regular check-in gives both of you a moment to notice and say so.

The traffic light system is quick to answer, even when words are hard: green means all good, yellow means slow down or change something, red means stop now. The timer simply makes sure you do not forget to ask.

A reminder, not a guardian

  • Anyone can say yellow or red at any time. You never wait for the timer.
  • Keep watching each other: breathing, skin color, warmth of hands and feet, voice and responses.
  • Agree on a non-verbal signal for when someone cannot speak, like dropping an object or tapping three times.
  • Never leave a restrained person alone, not even for a moment.

How it works

  1. Choose an interval

Pick 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes, or set your own. Shorter is better for bondage, impact or anything new.

  2. Set the chime

Adjust the volume or mute it. On phones that support it, the timer can also vibrate.

  3. Start and play

A large countdown shows the time until the next check-in. The screen stays on where your browser allows it.

  4. Answer the check-in

When the chime sounds, pause and choose green, yellow or red. Yellow shows ideas for slowing down, red stops the timer and shows first steps.

What is stored

Only your timer settings (interval, chime, volume and vibration) are saved in this browser. Check-ins and answers are not recorded or sent anywhere.

Questions about the check-in timer

How often should we check in?

It depends on what you do and how well you know each other. Every 3 to 5 minutes suits rope, restraint, impact or anything new. Every 10 to 15 minutes can work for slower, familiar play. When in doubt, choose the shorter interval.

What do green, yellow and red mean?

Green: all good, keep going. Yellow: slow down, ease off or change something, and talk briefly. Red: stop now, release any restraints and take care of each other. Agree on these words, or your own, before you start.

Does the timer work with the screen locked?

Browsers pause or slow down pages in the background, so keep the page open and visible. Where the browser supports it, the timer keeps the screen on while it runs. On some phones, the chime only plays after you have tapped the page once.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the timer, chime and prompts run in your browser and need no connection.

Is a timer enough to stay safe?

No. It is a reminder to ask, not a replacement for paying attention. Watch each other the whole time, learn the risks of what you do and keep safety scissors within reach for any rope or tape.
