What the test is
The preference test is a self-reflection tool. You rate statements about control, sensation, structure, care and play on a five-point scale, from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The test then shows how closely your answers match 20 roles that are common in kink and BDSM communities.
Section 1 is the core of the test. Sections 2 and 3 are optional and add more detail. Statements about sexual practices are only shown if you confirm you are 18 or older and choose to include them.
Your results describe tendencies, not identities. Many people recognize themselves in several roles, and preferences often change over time. Use the results as a starting point for conversations with yourself and your partners.
How it works
Answer the statements
One statement at a time. Answer with the buttons or the keys 1 to 5. Your answers are saved in this browser, so you can take a break and continue later.
Go deeper if you like
After section 1 you can see your results or continue with the optional sections 2 and 3 for a more detailed picture.
Pick your interests
Choose kinks, fetishes, toys and practices you are curious about. With an account they are added to your personal library.
Read and keep your results
See your top roles, scores for all 20 roles and your interests. Copy them, download a text file or print them as a PDF.
How scoring works
Each statement is linked to one or more roles with a weight. Your answer counts from 0 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree). For every role, the test adds up your answers multiplied by their weights and divides that by the highest possible total for the statements you answered. The result is a percentage between 0 and 100.
Example: two statements count towards a role, one with weight 2 and one with weight 1. You answer agree (3) and strongly agree (4). The score is (3 × 2 + 4 × 1) ÷ (4 × 2 + 4 × 1) = 10 ÷ 12, about 83%.
Statements you skip in the optional sections are not counted, so they neither raise nor lower a score.
Questions and answers
Is the preference test free?
Yes. All sections are free and you do not need an account to take the test. An account only adds the option to save results and build your library.
How long does the test take?
Section 1 takes about 10 to 15 minutes. The optional sections 2 and 3 take about the same time each.
Does the test tell me who I am?
No. It reflects your answers on a given day. Roles are tools for talking about preferences, not labels you have to accept.
Can I take the test again?
Yes, as often as you like. With an account, every saved result appears in your test history so you can compare them.
