Before you start: Talk it through when you are both calm and sober, agree on a safeword and a non-verbal signal, and keep safety shears, water and a phone within reach.
What you need
- The library entry on praise kink, read together beforehand In the library
- Background on romantic power exchange, if the dynamic is new to you In the library
- A hairbrush or comb for a grooming ritual In the library
- Massage oil for hands, feet or shoulders, checked for allergies In the library
- Ideas for gentle body worship, if you both want to include it In the library
- Optional: a soft blindfold for the receiving moments In the library
- A firm cushion for kneeling or sitting at your partner's feet
- A short handwritten list of words and names each of you loves to hear, and a few you do not
- Calm music, warm lighting (LED candles are easiest) and a favorite drink
- A blanket, water and a small snack for afterward
Preparation
Each of you writes down three to five phrases or pet names that feel good to hear, plus any words that fall flat or hurt.
The guiding partner prepares a few specific things they genuinely appreciate about the devoted partner, so the praise does not run dry.
Choose three or four small acts of devotion together, such as serving a drink, brushing hair or a hand massage.
Clear an evening without phones, deadlines or visitors, and set up a comfortable space with a cushion and soft light.
Agree on a simple opening and closing, such as holding hands for a moment and saying one sentence each.
Eat something beforehand so nobody runs on an empty stomach.
Agree on this first
- Who takes the guiding role and who the devoted role this evening, and would you like to swap another time?
- Which words, pet names and phrases are welcome, and which ones are off limits, including gendered terms?
- Which topics should praise focus on: effort, care, skill, appearance or simply who the person is? Are any areas, such as body or weight, better left out?
- Which kinds of touch are part of the evening, and does it stay nonsexual or may it become sexual if you both want that in the moment?
- Which safeword or signal will you use? Red to stop, yellow to slow down and green to continue are easy to remember, even in a gentle scene.
- How will the guiding partner check in, for example with a quiet question about how the devoted partner feels?
- What happens if praise brings up unexpected emotions, such as tears or embarrassment? Agree that pausing to talk is always fine.
- Is withholding praise or any kind of correction part of the evening? For a first evening, it is simpler to leave both out.
Safety checks
- Use a firm cushion for kneeling, and limit kneeling to a few minutes at a time with a change of position in between.
- Patch-test new massage oil on a small area of skin, and avoid scented oils if either of you reacts to fragrance.
- Keep praise sincere and specific. Generic or exaggerated praise can feel hollow and erode trust.
- Never use praise to compare your partner with someone else, or to push them toward something they hesitated about.
- Watch for signs that praise is landing badly, such as a tight smile, a turned-away face or going quiet, and check in gently.
- If you use real candles, keep them out of reach of cushions, hair and fabric, or choose LED candles instead.
- Agree that stepping out of the roles to talk normally is always allowed and never counts as failing.
The scene, step by step
The step-by-step flow is for adults
It describes sexual and BDSM actions in detail. It is shown only after you confirm that you are 18 or older. The plan above is everything you need to decide whether this scene is right for you.
Aftercare
- Close the scene with your agreed ritual and return to talking as equals.
- Sit close, share the snack and water, and stay together for a while instead of jumping back into chores or screens.
- The guiding partner thanks the devoted partner once more for something concrete from the evening.
- Ask each other which words or moments felt best and which ones you would change next time.
- Check in the next day, since some people feel a quiet dip after an emotionally open evening.
Variations
- Gentler: skip the roles and take turns praising each other for ten minutes each while cuddling.
- Gentler: replace spoken praise with a letter the guiding partner writes beforehand and reads aloud.
- Stronger: add simple protocols, such as asking permission before sitting or using an agreed form of address.
- Stronger: use praise as a reward for small tasks within a longer evening of service.
- Swap roles on a second evening to learn what each side of the dynamic feels like.
